The Illinois Structural Health Monitoring Project (ISHMP) is developing hardware and software systems for the continuous and reliable monitoring and control of civil infrastructure using a dense network of smart sensor-actuator nodes. The project has released an open source toolsuite containing a library of services for, and examples of, SHM applications. This toolsuite has been validated on laboratory-scale bridge structures and several full-scale validation validation deployments.

ISHMP is a collaboration between the Smart Structures Technology Laboratory, directed by Prof. Bill F. Spencer, Jr., from the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department and the Open Systems Laboratory, directed by Prof. Gul Agha, from the Computer Science Department at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. This research is supported in part by the National Science Foundation, under grants CNS 1035773, CMMI 0928886, CMS 0301140 and CMS 0600433 (Dr. S. C. Liu, program manager), Intel Corporation (Lama Nachman, program contact), and the Vodafone-U.S. Foundation Graduate Fellowship.
